Glamour set step out in style on Derby Day

Publicado: 2015-10-31

While it has been soaking wet at various stages of the day the warm conditions have meant many racegoers were able to stick to their original Derby Day outfits despite the rain.

Lace and longer hemlines, along with single shoulder, strapless and cutout details, have been the standout trends of the day.

Swisse’s International guest Hilary Swank opted for a Christopher Esber pant suit, leading the charge for many women who donned chic pants suits for the day.

Ash Hart was a standout sporting a stunning Dolce and Gabbana black dress with fine floral leather and jewel detail, while Emirates special guest Millie Mackintosh was chic in Camilla and Marc strapless dress and Stephen Jones headpiece.

While variations on the crown ruled for many trackside, there was a distinct move towards wider brims on the fashion set in the exclusive Birdcage enclosure.

Myer face Jennifer Hawkins’ lace brimmed Ann Shoebridge hat added a contemporary touch to a traditional style, the perfect fit with her cream Alex Perry bell-sleeved dress.

“I think Derby Day black and white is so striking at the track,” she says.

Jessica Gomes, attending her first Derby Day as a guest of Lexus, was stunning in a cream, long line Ellery dress.

“This is straight from the runway in Paris, I feel very special in this outfit,” she says.

Lauren Phillips was pretty as a picture in an Asilio white lace dress, offset by a cool leather petal headpiece by Victoria Novak.

Strapless dresses dominated on WAGS trackside most elegantly on Nadia Bartel, who is three weeks from giving birth, and Emma Clapham, who added a fun Halloween reference with a bat-printed clutch.

Vogue editor in chief Edwina McCann was impressed with the caliber of the fashion trackside.

“Every year it gets better and better,” she says.

“Overall people are pretty well pulled together despite the elements.”

Fashion Police host Melissa Rivers was captivated by the crowd milling around the Mumm marquee.

“This has exceeded all expectations. Everyone pulls out all the stops,” she says.Read more at:cocktail dresses
